Price Set: What It’ll Take for the Lions to Keep Jameson Williams in 2026

Lions Face Big Decision on Jameson Williams’ 2026 Option
After a breakout 1,000-yard season, Jameson Williams has officially earned his fifth-year option price tag—and now, the Detroit Lions must decide whether to pick it up.

The NFL announced the 2025 salary cap at $279.2 million, setting Williams’ fifth-year option at $15.493 million for 2026. Detroit has until May 1 to exercise the option, which would fully guarantee his salary for that season.

Williams’ Journey to a Breakout Year
After a slow start due to injuries and suspensions, Williams exploded in 2024 with 58 catches, 1,001 yards, and 7 touchdowns, adding another 61 yards and a score on the ground. His two-touchdown performance in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers signaled his arrival as a true playmaker.

With one year left on his rookie contract, the Lions have three options:

Pick up the option and guarantee him $15.5M in 2026.
Negotiate a long-term extension before the 2025 season.
Let him play out his contract and decide later, risking free agency.
After a breakout year, the Lions will have to weigh Williams’ potential against the cost—but with his game-changing speed, keeping him in Detroit could be worth every penny.
