QB Battle? Russell Wilson Already Claiming Giants’ Starting Spot

Russell Wilson Makes It Clear: “I Expect to Be the Starter”

Russell Wilson isn’t coming to New York to sit on the bench. After signing a one-year deal with the Giants worth up to $21 million, the veteran quarterback made his intentions crystal clear during his first press conference: he expects to be the starter.

“To be able to lead,” Wilson said, per NBC Sports. “I think this team is looking for someone to lead them in every way   in the offseason, during the season, our habits, our thought process, and how we build a winning culture.”

Wilson’s arrival has stirred up the Giants’ quarterback situation. With Daniel Jones recovering from injury and Jameis Winston also joining the roster on a two-year deal, there’s no guarantee Wilson will be handed the starting job. But that’s not stopping the former Super Bowl champion from setting the tone early.

New York’s quarterback battle just got a whole lot more interesting. Will Wilson be the guy under center in Week 1, or will someone else step up? The competition is officially on.
