The Dallas Cowboys have their work cut out for them if they want to keep up with the Washington Commanders, who’ve been on a tear this offseason, adding big names left and right. But despite that, Dan Quinn is in a great spot to potentially challenge the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC.
Unlike last year, Quinn hasn’t been focused on signing former Cowboys, and surprisingly, it was Dallas that took Washington’s top pass rusher, Dante Fowler.
However, Washington didn’t waste any time responding, signing former Cowboy Michael Gallup out of retirement. Gallup, who had announced his comeback, visited a few teams, but it felt almost like destiny that he’d end up back with Quinn, who was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator during Gallup’s final seasons in Dallas.
The Commanders, who also traded for Deebo Samuel, have been actively looking for a wide receiver after losing some players in free agency. So, they signed Gallup, who will add depth and competition to their receiving corps as training camp heats up.
Meanwhile, Dallas probably won’t be pursuing Gallup for a reunion. While Gallup had a stellar start to his career, his struggles after ACL surgery have been tough to watch. He managed just 73 catches, 842 yards, and six touchdowns over the last two seasons, and was even passed over by Jalen Tolbert in 2023. His knee injury really took a toll on his game.
It’ll be tough for Cowboys fans to cheer for Gallup now that he’s with a division rival, but he’s a great guy, and everyone hopes he can finish his career on a better note—even if that means as a role player for Washington.
And as for Quinn? Well, he’s just been on a roll, hasn’t he?
