Ragnow Retires, Ratledge Rises: Lions’ O-Line Future Already Taking Shape

The Detroit Lions are still absorbing the shock of Frank Ragnow’s sudden retirement, but attention has quickly shifted to what comes next—and the team might already have his successor on the roster.

Enter rookie offensive lineman Tate Ratledge.

The Lions picked up Ratledge in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, fresh off a stellar career at Georgia. While he played right guard for the Bulldogs, Ratledge began training at center during his final offseason in Athens and has continued snapping the ball in Detroit’s rookie camp and OTAs. With Ragnow missing time during spring workouts, Ratledge has already seen reps with the first team.

It’s a big leap, but the 6’6″, 315-pound mauler brings the pedigree. Ratledge started 37 games at Georgia, earned All-SEC honors twice, and helped the Bulldogs to two national championships. Even after dealing with injuries last season—including an MCL sprain and high-ankle sprain—he finished strong, allowing just one sack in 10 games.

Of course, veteran Graham Glasgow remains a strong option too. With more than 2,000 snaps at center in his nine-year career, Glasgow could slide in and let Ratledge stay at his natural position. But make no mistake—the Lions clearly see Ratledge as a long-term piece in the middle.

Replacing a four-time Pro Bowler like Ragnow won’t be easy. But with a mix of veteran experience and young upside, Detroit’s O-line might still be in good hands.
