Brad Holmes has done a lot right as the Detroit Lions’ general manager, but no GM hits on every move. As he enters his fifth free agency period, let’s take a look at his five worst signings.
5. CB Emmanuel Moseley
Moseley was a risky signing coming off a torn ACL, but the Lions bet on his talent with a one-year deal in 2023. Unfortunately, he tore his other ACL just two snaps into his debut. Detroit gave him another shot in 2024, but a torn pectoral and other setbacks limited him to just two games.
4. WR Tyrell Williams
Signed in 2021 to help fill the Lions’ thin receiver room, Williams suffered a concussion in Week 1 and never played another snap in the NFL.
3. S C.J. Gardner-Johnson
A high-profile signing in 2023, Gardner-Johnson tore his pectoral in Week 2 and barely played. When he did return, he wasn’t effective and later criticized the team and its fans after returning to the Eagles.
2. WR Breshad Perriman
Perriman, part of Holmes’ first free-agent class, never made it to the regular season. A hip injury limited him in camp, and the Lions cut him before Week 1.
1. CB Cameron Sutton
Signed in 2023 to be Detroit’s top corner, Sutton struggled all season before being cut in 2024 due to a domestic violence-related arrest warrant. His poor play and off-field issues make him Holmes’ worst signing to date.
