According to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the future of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson with the team hinges significantly on head coach Mike Tomlin’s preference. Fittipaldo stated, “Mike [Tomlin]’s the head coach. He’s got say over a lot of stuff in that building. If Mike wants Russell Wilson back, Russell Wilson’s gonna be back.”
Wilson, who joined the Steelers in March 2024 on a one-year deal, experienced a season of highs and lows. He secured the starting quarterback position but was sidelined early in the season due to a calf injury. Upon his return, Wilson led the team to several victories, showcasing his veteran leadership and playmaking abilities. However, a late-season slump, marked by a four-game losing streak, cast doubt on his future with the franchise.
