The Detroit Lions could be at risk of losing a key veteran wide receiver this offseason, as reports suggest the New York Jets have their eye on Tim Patrick. With former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn now leading the Jets and ex-Detroit assistant Tanner Engstrand serving as offensive coordinator, it’s no surprise they might want to bring in familiar faces to help establish their system.
Patrick, who signed with the Lions last year after missing two seasons due to injuries, became a valuable piece of Detroit’s offense in 2024. He finished the season with 33 receptions for 394 yards and three touchdowns—solid numbers for a player coming off a long layoff. Now, with the Jets facing questions at wide receiver, ESPN’s Rich Cimini has identified Patrick as a possible target for New York in free agency.
The Lions will have decisions to make at wide receiver this offseason. Amon-Ra St. Brown remains the team’s top option, but depth will be important if they want to maintain an elite passing attack. While Patrick isn’t the biggest name on the market, his chemistry with Jared Goff and ability to contribute in key moments could make him a priority for Detroit to re-sign.
With free agency approaching, the Lions must determine whether to retain Patrick or look for other options in the draft or on the open market. If he departs, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him reunite with Glenn and Engstrand in New York. Keep an eye on this storyline as the offseason heats up.
