The Phoenix Suns have been busy reshaping their roster this offseason, looking to build a stronger team around star guard Devin Booker after missing the playoffs last year. After dealing Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets and adding several new faces during the 2025 NBA Draft—including Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming, Koby Brea, and acquiring Mark Williams in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets—the Suns appear far from done.
Now, one player who could be on his way out of Phoenix is center Nick Richards. With the Suns adding frontcourt depth through Williams and Maluach, Richards’ future in the desert is uncertain. According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in trading for Richards as they seek a new starting center.
The Lakers’ urgency to land a center is high. They’re looking for someone to pair with LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves after missing out on several free-agent big men. Alongside Richards, the Lakers have reportedly inquired about Yves Missi of the Pelicans and Robert Williams III of the Trail Blazers.
For Los Angeles, Richards would bring inside scoring and rebounding ability—key needs for their roster. Last season, the 27-year-old averaged 9.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 60.5% from the field.
Given the Suns’ recent additions in the paint, they could be willing to part with Richards if the Lakers offer the right deal. With both teams motivated—Phoenix to clear space and L.A. to solidify its frontcourt—a trade could happen soon.
