Who Was NFL Draft Prospect Kyren Lacy, Found Dead at 24 Before Court Date
Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy has died at just 24 years old in what appears to be a suicide during a police chase in Houston. According to a report from the Harris County sheriff, Lacy was being pursued by police late Saturday night when he crashed his car. When officers reached the vehicle, they found Lacy dead.
Lacy had been dealing with serious legal trouble after being charged in connection with a fatal car accident in Louisiana back in December 2024 an incident that badly hurt his NFL Draft chances.
Authorities said that accident happened when Lacy was speeding and passing in a no-passing zone. Another driver swerved to avoid his car and ended up crashing head-on into a different vehicle. That crash killed 78-year-old Herman Hall, who later died at the hospital. Reports say Lacy fled the scene without calling for help.
After the crash, Lacy faced several charges including negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving. He had declared for the NFL Draft shortly after the incident, but didn’t play in LSU’s Texas Bowl game against Baylor on December 31.
In the 2024 college football season, Lacy had a solid year, leading LSU with nine touchdown catches and ranking second on the team in both receptions (58) and receiving yards (866). He was viewed as a potential mid-round pick in the NFL Draft before his legal troubles came to light.
LSU issued a statement expressing sadness over his death, sending condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.
