Rising Star: Alexander Eneas Signs with the New York Mets

A Promising Talent from The Bahamas Takes the Next Step in His Baseball Journey

Alexander Eneas, a rising baseball prospect from The Bahamas, has officially signed with the New York Mets, marking a significant milestone in his young career. His path to the major leagues is a testament to perseverance, hard work, and an unwavering passion for the game.

A Dream Realized

Eneas, affectionately known as ‘Big Al’ in his hometown for his pitching dominance, couldn’t hide his excitement about joining the Mets organization.

“I’m very happy and excited and also blessed,” Eneas said. “I am looking forward to having a good season with the Mets, moving up with their organization, and representing The Bahamas. This is a blessing, and I am very grateful for this opportunity.”

For Eneas, this is just the beginning. He has set clear goals for his future in professional baseball.

“My short-term goals are to develop my talent and have a successful first season in the Dominican Summer League,” he shared. “Long-term, I aim to be transferred to the Florida academy, progress through the Minor League system, and eventually play at the Mets stadium in New York.”

A Journey Built on Hard Work and Determination

Eneas’s baseball career began at the age of 12 when he was selected to represent The Bahamas in the U13 Little League World Series in Branson, Missouri. His standout moment came when he pitched a no-hitter against Cuba, showcasing his elite potential.

However, his development faced an unexpected hurdle when the COVID-19 pandemic brought sports activities in The Bahamas to a halt for nearly two years. With limited training opportunities, Eneas had to find alternative ways to refine his skills and stay prepared for future opportunities.

Refining His Skills and Earning His Shot

Determined to continue his growth, Eneas moved to the United States in August 2021, enrolling at Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. There, he gained valuable experience playing for the junior varsity baseball team. After two terms, he returned to Nassau, completing Grade 9 at Boost Academy.

Eneas then joined MaxD Sports Development, a premier baseball academy led by Coach Greg Burrows Jr. Burrows has played a pivotal role in developing Bahamian baseball talent, including New York Yankees outfielder and 2023 MLB All-Star Jazz Chisholm.

Under Burrows’ mentorship, Eneas refined his game, learning the discipline required to succeed at the highest level. He competed in the Senior division with Freedom Farm’s Caribs Team, coached by Kevin Moxey. His time at MaxD Academy also allowed him to participate in international tournaments in Florida and Georgia, along with specialized training in the Dominican Republic.

Catching the Eye of MLB Scouts

Eneas’s breakthrough moment came in January 2025 at a baseball showcase in Nassau, hosted by LDK Baseball. The event, founded by former Bahamian MLB player and current coach Antoan Richardson, provided a platform for young players to impress scouts.

It was here that international recruiting scout Elvis Rios spotted Eneas’s potential, setting the stage for his recruitment by the New York Mets.

Joining the Mets and Looking Ahead

Now officially part of the Mets organization, Eneas will begin his journey as a utility infielder, with a focus on shortstop and second base. He joins fellow Bahamian prospect Bohan Adderley, who signed with the Mets in 2024.

As he embarks on this exciting chapter, Eneas carries the hopes of his country and the lessons learned from his mentors. With his talent, determination, and the right guidance, he has a promising future ahead in professional baseball.
