Rodgers Effect: A Safe Bet for Steelers’ Success

The Pittsburgh Steelers might have found their next quarterback—if they can seal the deal. Aaron Rodgers, now 41, is still on the market, and the Steelers are in the running alongside the New York Giants to sign him.

Rodgers was in Pittsburgh last Friday, meeting with head coach Mike Tomlin and team execs. He left without a contract, but that doesn’t mean one isn’t coming soon. NFL insider Mike Florio thinks it’s a “safe bet” Rodgers will land in Pittsburgh for the 2025 season.

But will he actually make the Steelers better? That’s the big question.

Rodgers’ numbers last season with the Jets weren’t much different from Russell Wilson’s in Pittsburgh. Both quarterbacks had nearly identical passing yards per game, yards per attempt, and touchdown percentages. Simply put, Rodgers might not be the game-changer Steelers fans are hoping for.

Florio, however, sees Rodgers as the best quarterback the Steelers have had since Ben Roethlisberger. And with DK Metcalf joining the team, Pittsburgh’s offense should be better than last year.

Still, Rodgers isn’t the same dominant player he once was. His recent performances, along with his well-documented off-field drama, make this move far from a sure thing. If the Steelers do sign him, they’ll be betting on an aging QB with some serious question marks
