Aaron Rodgers, former Green Bay Packers legend and current free agent, spent six hours meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he left without putting pen to paper. The meeting reportedly went well, but it was more of a “let’s get to know each other” situation rather than a contract negotiation.
While Pittsburgh is in the mix, Rodgers has also been linked to the New York Giants. However, the Giants just made a surprising move—signing veteran QB Jameis Winston for the 2025 season.
Giants Bring in Winston, But Rodgers Still an Option
Jameis Winston, the former No. 1 overall pick, announced on Friday that he’s joining the Giants on a two-year, $8 million deal. Winston spent last season with the Cleveland Browns, playing in 12 games (starting five) and throwing for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Before that, he was a backup in New Orleans for four seasons after a rollercoaster run as Tampa Bay’s starter—most famously throwing 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season back in 2019.
Giants Still Have Room for Rodgers
At first glance, signing Winston might seem like the Giants are moving on from Rodgers, but that’s not the case. Reports suggest that New York is still open to bringing in the four-time MVP if he decides to play another season. Winston’s contract is relatively cheap, meaning the Giants could still afford to make a big move for Rodgers.
That said, Pittsburgh might be a more appealing option for Rodgers. The Steelers went 10-7 last season, while the Giants struggled with a 3-14 record. New York has also been linked to former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson and is expected to draft a young QB in the upcoming draft.
For now, Rodgers remains the biggest free-agent domino yet to fall, and the NFL world is watching to see where he lands.
