Rookie Roars—and Misses: Embarrassing Lions Comment Goes Viral

The Detroit Lions just brought in a fresh batch of rookies for the 2025 season, and most of these guys are straight out of college. That means they’re among the youngest players in the league. Sure, they’re not quite as young as some NBA rookies—like 19-year-old Ron Holland II from the Pistons—but still, these NFL newbies are just getting started.

One of the fun parts of the offseason is getting to know these rookies. They usually have interesting backstories and bring some fun energy to the league.

Now, let’s talk about a moment that might make Lions fans feel really old. Over on a podcast hosted by brothers Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown, New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo made an appearance. He was chatting about his football journey and shared some cool insights. But during a little game segment where he had to identify NFL legends, things got… a little awkward.

When Calvin Johnson’s photo popped up, Skattebo kind of froze. He recognized the face but couldn’t place the name. Amon-Ra tried to help him out, saying, “He’s one of the best receivers to ever play the game. He played for the Lions.” Eventually, Skattebo guessed, “It’s Megatron? Is it?”

Yikes.

Look, Skattebo is only 23, and Johnson retired almost a decade ago. But still—Calvin Johnson is a football icon. Not recognizing Megatron is like a young musician not knowing who Mick Jagger is. No matter your age, if you’re even a little into football, you should know who Calvin Johnson is.

To be fair, Skattebo did have trouble identifying some other legends too. He’s young, so we’ll give him a bit of a break. The guy had a strong run at Arizona State and was picked 105th overall by the Giants in this year’s draft. But maybe it’s time for a crash course in NFL history.
