“Russ Picked the Giants Over the Steelers, and His Reason Might Surprise You”

Russell Wilson Picks Giants Over Steelers – And Here’s What Sealed the Deal

The New York Giants scooped up Russell Wilson in free agency, and even though they grabbed Jaxson Dart in the first round, it looks like Wilson is QB1 for now.

This marks Russ’s third team in three years — Denver in 2022 and 2023, Pittsburgh in 2024, and now he’s landing in New York. So, what made him pick the Giants over sticking around with the Steelers?

Turns out, two major names sold him: Malik Nabers and Brian Daboll.

Wilson explained on *7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony* that Nabers was the real game-changer.
“I just turned on the film and watched Malik Nabers, man, this dude’s a superstar,” Wilson said. “When you break down every catch, every rep, every play — he’s just electric. He touches the ball, and he’s gone.”

Hard to blame him — having a playmaker like Nabers waiting to catch passes is a dream for any QB.

But it wasn’t just the wideout that drew him in — Wilson also had big praise for Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
“I really liked Daboll too,” Russ said. “I’ve been watching him for years. Coach of the Year a couple years back — he’s just got a brilliant football mind. I visited last year before signing with Pittsburgh and came away really impressed.”

Basically, Russ saw a dynamic young receiver and a sharp, proven coach — and figured the Giants gave him the best shot to thrive.

It’s a win-win for New York, too. They get a veteran under center while Dart develops behind the scenes. And if Wilson plays well enough to hold down the job? Even better — it means their QB room is in a good place.

But make no mistake: if Wilson stumbles, Dart’s waiting. The clock’s ticking, and Russ knows it.
