Russell Wilson Signing Gives Giants Flexibility in NFL Draft
The New York Giants have made a major move at quarterback, signing veteran Russell Wilson to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million. With $10.5 million guaranteed, Wilson immediately becomes the presumed starter, joining Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito in a now-crowded QB room.
This shift could dramatically alter the Giants’ draft strategy. With the No. 3 overall pick, many expected them to target a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward. But Wilson’s presence means they now have the flexibility to go after the best player available.
Travis Hunter Could Be the Ultimate Wild Card Pick
If the Giants opt to look beyond quarterback, Colorado star Travis Hunter could be their ideal selection. Hunter is a rare two-way talent, excelling at both cornerback and wide receiver. He played over 100 snaps in 11 of 13 games last season and even earned Heisman recognition.
New York’s roster has holes at both positions. While they signed Paulson Adebo at corner and drafted Malik Nabers at receiver last year, adding Hunter would give them an instant-impact playmaker on both sides of the ball. With Wilson under center, the Giants can afford to take a swing on a generational talent rather than reach for a quarterback out of necessity.
That doesn’t mean the Giants are set long-term at QB. They could still draft one in the second round or trade up later to secure their future signal-caller. But for now, Wilson’s arrival has opened up new possibilities for how New York approaches the 2025 NFL Draft.
