Russell Wilson just signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants, and it looks like he could be stepping into the role of a “bridge quarterback.” That might be fine with him, but when asked about the Giants possibly drafting a quarterback, he didn’t sugarcoat his response. During a Zoom call, Wilson made it clear that his focus would be on what he can control: “Handle yourself first. … Control what you can control. … Lead by example.

It seems like Wilson isn’t too keen on the idea of mentoring a younger quarterback. This makes sense since he’s likely only with the Giants for a year, depending on how the team handles the draft. The Giants are reportedly eyeing Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders with the No. 3 pick, although that’s not set in stone. They might go in a different direction and target a quarterback later in the draft. Either way, the Giants still need to find a long-term quarterback, something Wilson doesn’t really fill, and he’ll have to deal with the reality that the team might invest in a future QB sooner rather than later. It’s clear this situation isn’t exactly what Wilson envisioned, but it’s probably his best shot at being a starter in 2025.
