Russell Wilson Says Goodbye to Prince, the Great Dane Who Was There From the Start

Russell Wilson recently shared the heartbreaking news that his beloved Great Dane, Prince, passed away at age 12 after battling cancer. Wilson, who got Prince during his rookie NFL season in 2012, commemorated the dog’s life with a touching Instagram post, highlighting the joy and love Prince brought to his family.

“Prince, 12 years ago you came into my life. I got you my rookie year & you have been a blessing to our family with so many memories, hugs, and kisses from our 4 kids and us,” Wilson wrote. “You overcame cancer twice and lived 12 years when most live 6. Heaven got a good one!”

Wilson, known for his strong NFL career, began his journey with the Seattle Seahawks, where he became a starter as a rookie after being drafted in 2012. Prince was by his side through those early years, sparking Wilson’s lifelong love for Great Danes. Since marrying Ciara in 2016, the couple has welcomed two additional Great Danes, Naomi and Hero, into their home.

Wilson’s passion for dogs extends beyond his home, as he works with the Banfield Foundation’s Safer Together initiative. This program helps domestic violence victims find shelters that accommodate pets, addressing a crucial barrier for many seeking safety. Through his work, Wilson combines his love for animals with his commitment to making a positive impact.
