Sauce Gardner, the New York Jets cornerback, had high praise from his teammate D.J. Reed, who believed Gardner was everything the media said he was – a lockdown cornerback. Gardner’s impressive college career at Cincinnati, where he never allowed a receiving touchdown in coverage, made him a top-tier cornerback prospect.
Gardner’s NFL career has been impressive, earning him a four-year contract. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl, earned All-Pro honors, and was voted NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Interestingly, Gardner paid teammate D.J. Reed $50,000 for the right to wear the number 1 jersey. Gardner and Reed have been teammates, and Reed has been impressed with Gardner’s skills, calling him “prototypical” with “elite characteristics”.
