Senator: Trump Ditches Constitution, Leaves Maryland Father Stuck in El Salvador

Senator Slams Trump Over Wrongful Deportation of Maryland Dad

A senator from Maryland is calling out Donald Trump for what he says is a clear violation of the Constitution. Senator Chris Van Hollen is speaking up after a Maryland father, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was wrongly deported to El Salvador.

Van Hollen made it clear that if Garcia isn’t brought back soon, he’s heading to El Salvador himself to check on him and push for his release. The senator blasted Trump in a CNN interview, saying that if the president can get away with ignoring the Constitution and Supreme Court rulings now, it won’t stop there  and every American should be concerned.

Garcia, who had legal protected status in the U.S., was mistakenly deported and thrown into a high-security prison in El Salvador. Van Hollen has already reached out to the country’s ambassador and even requested a meeting with their president, Nayib Bukele, to sort this out. So far, no response.

The senator said he plans to visit the prison and personally check on Garcia if things don’t move quickly. He also made it clear that even the Trump administration admitted this was a mistake, so Garcia deserves fair treatment and to be brought home.

Van Hollen believes this situation puts both the Trump administration and El Salvador’s government in a tough spot, and he’s determined to show support for Garcia’s family until it’s resolved.
