The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up a disappointing 2024 NFL season with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs entirely. Naturally, this has sparked plenty of speculation about the team’s next head coach.

Among the rumored candidates is Deion Sanders, the charismatic head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes and a Cowboys legend. While the idea of “Coach Prime” leading Dallas has fans buzzing, even his son, Shedeur Sanders, addressed the rumors during his “2Legendary” podcast, shared by Overtime’s official X account.

“It’s a decision on him,” Shedeur said when asked about the possibility of his father coaching the Cowboys. “It’s not really up to me. I don’t really have a say-so in anything at all.”

The Cowboys’ struggles this season have put pressure on owner Jerry Jones to shake things up, and fans are eager for a fresh start. Other potential candidates for the head coaching position include current offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Still, the idea of Deion Sanders returning to the franchise where he became an icon is undeniably compelling.

Deion has earned a reputation as a transformative leader, turning struggling programs into contenders. At Colorado, he led the Buffaloes to an impressive 9-4 season and oversaw an unforgettable Heisman campaign by two-way star Travis Hunter. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders shone as Colorado’s quarterback and is projected to be a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

While Shedeur seems focused on his own future, his comments make it clear that any decision about coaching in Dallas rests with his father. If Deion were to take the helm, it would be his first coaching role in the NFL. Such a move could reignite excitement among the Cowboys’ fanbase and bring Deion full circle, back to the team where he made his mark as a Hall of Fame player.
