Shock Pick Incoming? Giants Target Wirfs-Style Star in Draft

The New York Giants are causing a bit of a stir with a surprising prediction for the 2025 NFL draft. While it’s no shock that they might grab an offensive tackle, the buzz is around them potentially using their third overall pick on one. That would be a bold move, considering other highly-rated players like cornerback Travis Hunter and edge rusher Abdul Carter are available.

So why would they do it? Well, they’re looking for a tackle who could make an impact like Tristan Wirfs did for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Missouri’s Armand Membou is getting some serious attention. According to Ian Valentino from The 33rd Team, Membou could be their version of Wirfs—raw but with serious potential.

The Giants have struggled with their offensive line recently, and adding a guy like Membou could be just what they need. He’s been a rock for Missouri, not allowing a single sack or QB hit in 2024. If they grab him, it could solve their right tackle issues and possibly set up a long-term solution if Andrew Thomas, who’s had some injury issues, doesn’t stay healthy.

However, it’s risky. The Giants have bigger needs, especially with playmakers like Hunter and Carter in the mix, and passing on them for a tackle could lead to a lot of questioning from fans. Plus, with veteran QBs Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston already on the team, do they really need to invest a top pick in a lineman instead of going after a future star like Shedeur Sanders?

It’s going to be interesting to see if the Giants stay the course with this offensive line pick or make a splash with a different kind of talent.
