Should the Giants Back Off? Insider Says Rodgers Isn’t Worth It

If you’re a New York Giants fan hoping Aaron Rodgers might land in blue, NFL insider Josina Anderson has some bad news for you.

On March 18, Anderson reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers believe they’re getting closer to securing Rodgers. She noted that we’ll have to wait and see if that optimism is mutual, but the Giants shouldn’t hold their breath.

Rodgers has also been linked to the Minnesota Vikings, though ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has cast doubt on that possibility. Either way, Anderson thinks the Giants should drop out of the Rodgers race altogether. Instead, she suggests focusing on Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston, both of whom have already visited the team.

‘They Should’ve Never Been in This Race’

Anderson didn’t hold back in her take, saying:

“Not only should the Giants withdraw their bid for Aaron Rodgers, they never should’ve entered this confusing courtship to begin with. It would be clear to Ray Charles that they’re not Rodgers’ first or second pick.”

She also warned that chasing Rodgers could backfire, as he’s unlikely to commit fully to a team that feels like a backup plan.

A Rookie QB Instead?

Anderson believes the Giants’ best move is drafting Shedeur Sanders at No. 3 overall and pairing him with a veteran mentor—just not Rodgers.

“Sanders has the charisma and it-factor the Giants need right now,” Anderson said. She also pointed out that selecting him would be a smart marketing move for owner John Mara, helping bring excitement and ticket sales to the franchise.

If the Giants draft Sanders, adding Rodgers wouldn’t make sense. Both quarterbacks would want to start, leading to unnecessary drama. Anderson thinks Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston would be a better fit to mentor a young QB.

Bottom Line

Rodgers wants to start and compete, not mentor a rookie. If the Giants plan to go all-in on Sanders, they need a veteran who fits the plan—not a future Hall of Famer looking for one last shot at a ring.

So should the Giants back out of the Rodgers sweepstakes? Anderson sure thinks so.
