Six-Time Pro Bowler Eyes Detroit Lions as Potential 2025 Destination

Darius Slay could be eyeing a return to Detroit. The six-time Pro Bowl cornerback is being released by the Philadelphia Eagles, and with the Lions still looking to strengthen their secondary, speculation about a reunion is growing.

Slay, who played for Detroit from 2013 to 2019, left after clashing with then-head coach Matt Patricia. But with Patricia long gone and the Lions coming off a strong 2024 season, the idea of Slay finishing his career in Detroit is on the table. While the team has younger options to develop, Slay’s experience could bring value—if the price is right.

The Detroit Lions had an excellent season in 2024, finishing with a 15-2 record while securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC Playoffs. Yet, once the postseason kicked off, the Lions fell flat, getting blown out 45-31 by the Washington Commanders.

After falling short of their ultimate goal, now Lions general manager Brad Holmes has to head back to the drawing board as he looks to improve Detroit’s roster. One potential solution may have just presented itself.
