Slay’s Sweet Reunion: Cornerback Thrilled to Work with Teryl Austin Again

Darius Slay is a Pro Bowl cornerback who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles after five seasons with the team. He has a history with the Eagles’ tight ends coach, Steve Heiden, which could make for a smooth transition if he were to join another team.

Slay has been named to the Pro Bowl in five of the past six seasons and has played in two Super Bowls, finally securing a title in 2024. He finished his stint with the Eagles with 272 total tackles, 11 TFLs, 56 pass breakups, and nine interceptions across 74 games.

The cornerback has also been involved in some notable trash talk incidents, including one with teammate CJ Gardner-Johnson, who made some bold claims before a game against the Bucs, only to have them backfire. Slay called out Gardner-Johnson, saying he needs to “back it up.”

Slay has also shown his ability to put aside rivalries and build friendships with players from other teams, including Cowboys star Micah Parsons. However, this hasn’t been without controversy, as some Eagles fans called for Slay’s captain status to be revoked after he appeared on Parsons’ podcast.

In terms of his health, Slay suffered a concussion in December 2024 but was able to return to the field quickly. His experience with concussions has provided insight into the challenges of recovering from these types of injuries.
