It’s another rough headline for a once-great NFL icon. Former Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson has found himself in trouble again — this time after being found slumped over at the wheel of his running vehicle at a gas station in Sugar Land, Texas.
The Arrest That Shocked Fans — Again
According to TMZ, a witness spotted Peterson asleep in the driver’s seat and snapped a photo before police arrived around 10 a.m. Sunday morning. Officers found the 40-year-old in the same position and later arrested him for driving while intoxicated. To make matters worse, a firearm was discovered in the vehicle, earning him an additional charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Peterson was taken into custody and spent the night in jail before being released Monday afternoon. For many fans, it’s a painful reminder of how far the former NFL MVP has fallen from his glory days.
Not His First Time in Trouble
This isn’t Peterson’s first run-in with the law — not even this year. Back in April, he was arrested in Minneapolis just hours after attending the Vikings’ public draft party. Police reportedly caught him driving 83 mph in a 55 zone, and a breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.14%, well above the legal limit.
And the pattern goes back even further. From a 2014 child abuse case that sidelined him for nearly an entire season to a 2022 airplane altercation with his wife, Peterson’s off-field issues have unfortunately become as notable as his on-field achievements.
From Greatness to Controversy
Once hailed as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, Peterson’s 15-year career saw him rack up 14,918 rushing yards — the fifth most in league history — and a 2012 MVP award. But today, the conversation around his name sounds very different.
The man who once bulldozed defenses on Sundays now seems to be battling his own demons. Fans can only hope this latest incident is the wake-up call he needs to finally get back on track.
