Mizzou’s basketball team took a tough loss to Oklahoma on the road, losing 96-84. Coming off a rough game against Vanderbilt, the Tigers couldn’t find their rhythm against the Sooners. While Mizzou is usually known for forcing turnovers, they managed only 9 against Oklahoma, which wasn’t even the main problem.
The real issue was their defense, or lack thereof. Oklahoma’s offense had their way, especially in the first half. They jumped to a 14-8 lead, with all of their made shots coming from easy layups. Sam Godwin started hot for the Sooners, but went down with a knee injury after scoring 12 points. Despite this, the Sooners kept rolling with freshman Jeremiah Fears, who was perfect from the field in the first half.
Oklahoma shot 69% in the first half, leading by 12 at the break, and they never looked back. Fears ended the game with a career-high 31 points. Mizzou’s defense was awful all night, and they couldn’t recover after falling behind. Now 10-7 in SEC play, the Tigers are heading into the SEC Tournament with a tough road ahead. They’ll try to bounce back in their final regular season game against Kentucky on Saturday.
