Juan Soto finally gave Mets fans something to cheer about at Citi Field — but it wasn’t enough.
After going homerless in his first 15 home games, Soto crushed two on Thursday night. Problem is, they were the only runs the Mets scored in a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Soto, who signed a $765 million deal with New York, had hit 12 homers as a visitor at Citi Field before joining the Mets, but hadn’t gone deep there as a home player until now. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza wasn’t concerned.
“We knew he was close,” Mendoza said.
Still, the Mets couldn’t capitalize on Soto’s breakout. Arizona managed to get just enough offense to secure the win, while New York continues to search for some home-field momentum.
