Spring Games at Risk? Big Ten Coach Opens Door to Possible Cancellation

Alabama football’s annual spring game, A-Day, is set for April 12. It’s usually a big deal, giving fans a preview of what to expect in the upcoming season. But not everyone thinks these games are a great idea in today’s college football world.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has some concerns. He pointed out that highly televised spring games can make it easier for other schools to scout players and potentially lure them away with transfer offers.

“We had one of the more watched spring games, and after that, I had to deal with people trying to recruit my players,” Rhule said. “Why would I want to put my guys on display just so other teams can see who they might want to poach? Tampering is basically normal now—there’s no real way to stop it. I’d rather keep things a little more private.”

Despite those concerns, Alabama is sticking with its tradition and will take the field for A-Day as planned.
