The Pittsburgh Steelers might have a shaky quarterback situation, but they’re in no rush to make a move—at least not until Aaron Rodgers decides what he wants to do next. According to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the team is perfectly fine waiting on Rodgers to either commit to playing in 2025 or call it quits. Money isn’t even a factor.
Right now, the only teams still showing interest in Rodgers are the Steelers and the New York Giants. There was some buzz about the Minnesota Vikings, but that talk has mostly fizzled out. So Rodgers has three options: Pittsburgh, New York, or retirement—and he’s in no hurry to pick one.
Meanwhile, the Steelers’ 2024 quarterback, Russell Wilson, is still a free agent but reportedly wants to return to Pittsburgh. If the team brings him back, that could be their best shot at some stability for now. Otherwise, their choices are rolling with backup Mason Rudolph, signing Rodgers (if he ever decides), or scrambling for another option.
With Justin Fields now off to the New York Jets, the Steelers are taking a big gamble by waiting. If Wilson signs elsewhere and Rodgers chooses the Giants or retirement, Pittsburgh could be left scrambling for a quarterback—maybe even looking at someone like Joe Flacco as a last resort.
For now, the Steelers are playing the waiting game, hoping it all works out in their favor.
