Steelers Hold Key Meeting with Texas QB Quinn Ewers Ahead of Pro Day

Pittsburgh Explores Quarterback Options in Draft Scouting Process

The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively evaluating potential quarterback prospects ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, and their latest focus is on Texas standout Quinn Ewers. According to John Hendrix of Athlon Sports, the Steelers recently met with Ewers ahead of his pro day, signaling potential interest in the highly regarded signal-caller.

A Growing Interest in Quarterbacks

This meeting is part of a broader effort by the Steelers to explore quarterback options. The team previously had dinner with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and also hosted Tyler Shough for a pre-draft visit. Now, with Ewers on their radar, Pittsburgh appears to be keeping its options open as it evaluates its long-term plans under center.

Ewers, who was once a top-tier recruit, began his college career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas. Despite his immense talent, his development has been met with mixed reviews. Initially projected as a high-ceiling prospect, he didn’t quite reach the dominant level some expected, leading to his current projection as a mid-round pick.

Ewers’ College Career and Draft Stock

During the 2024 season, Ewers delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 3,472 yards with 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His efforts helped Texas secure a spot in the College Football Playoff, showcasing his ability to lead under pressure.

Over his collegiate career, he accumulated over 9,000 passing yards with 68 touchdowns and just 24 interceptions. These stats highlight his ability to protect the ball while making key plays in crucial moments, a trait that NFL teams value in a young quarterback.

Steelers’ Future at Quarterback

While the Steelers have yet to make a definitive decision, their interest in Ewers suggests they are considering all possibilities for their quarterback room. Whether they view him as a potential future starter or a strong developmental prospect remains to be seen.

As the draft approaches, Pittsburgh’s next moves will be closely watched. If they continue showing interest in Ewers or other quarterbacks, it could signal a shift in their long-term plans at the position.
