Steelers Secondary Coach Grady Brown’s Future Uncertain

Pittsburgh Steelers secondary coach Grady Brown saw his contract expire at the end of the 2024 season, sources tell PennLive. In response, the team hired Gerald Alexander, formerly the Raiders’ safeties coach, as their new defensive backs coach.

Brown’s future with the Steelers remains uncertain. He interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator position in January but did not land the job. If he returns to Pittsburgh, it is expected to be in a more senior role than his previous position.

Brown’s Impact in Pittsburgh

Since joining the Steelers in 2021 from the college ranks, Brown has played a key role in game planning, particularly in shaping the team’s turnover-focused defensive philosophy. However, the secondary’s performance has been inconsistent, with Joey Porter Jr.’s development stagnating and overall defensive struggles.

Despite this, Brown remains highly regarded in league circles as a rising coaching talent. His selection as the defensive coordinator for the 2022 Senior Bowl further cemented his reputation as a potential future coordinator in the NFL.

Whether Pittsburgh retains Brown in a new role or he finds another opportunity elsewhere remains to be seen.
