Super Bowl LIX: Saquon Barkley breaks NFL record as Philadelphia Eagles dominate Kansas City Chiefs in first half

Saquon Barkley Breaks NFL Record as Eagles Dominate Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX
The Philadelphia Eagles came out firing in Super Bowl LIX, shutting out the Kansas City Chiefs 24-0 at halftime, with Saquon Barkley making history on the final play of the half.

Barkley, who was already having one of the greatest seasons by a running back, entered the game just 30 yards shy of breaking former Denver Broncos star Terrell Davis’ 1998 record for most combined rushing yards in a regular season and postseason (2,447 yards). While the Eagles’ ground attack took time to get going, Barkley officially passed the record with a two-yard run as the second quarter expired—on his 28th birthday, no less.

Despite Barkley’s slow start (12 carries, 31 yards), Philadelphia’s defense and passing game overwhelmed the Chiefs. The Eagles opened the scoring with a Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown, followed by a 48-yard field goal from Jake Elliott. Cooper DeJean added to the Chiefs’ misery with a 38-yard pick-six, and another Mahomes interception set up a 12-yard touchdown pass to AJ Brown.

Kansas City looked completely outmatched, with Mahomes struggling under pressure, throwing two costly interceptions, and the offense gaining just 23 total yards in the first half. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s defense was relentless, drawing comparisons to the Buccaneers’ unit that smothered Mahomes in Super Bowl LV.

Barkley, who was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year just days ago, is playing in his first Super Bowl after joining the Eagles in free agency. With history already made, Philadelphia looks poised to capture its second Lombardi Trophy—unless Mahomes can pull off a miracle comeback.

Will the Eagles keep up their dominance, or do the Chiefs have one last Super Bowl rally left in them?
