Super Bowl Push Starts Up Front: Predicting Detroit’s Starting O-Line

Now that Frank Ragnow has officially retired, the Detroit Lions have one major question to answer heading into training camp: Who’s taking over as the anchor of the offensive line? With a mix of returning stars, experienced vets, and a high-upside rookie, Detroit’s trenches still look like a strength—and that’s exactly what you want with Super Bowl expectations in the air.

Here’s the most likely starting five the Lions will roll out in Week 1:

Center: Tate Ratledge (Rookie)
Detroit drafted Ratledge to be their long-term answer in the middle, and he’s already been working closely with Jared Goff throughout OTAs. He’s got the physical tools (6-foot-6, 320 pounds), football IQ, and confidence to take command early. Head coach Dan Campbell has never been afraid to throw rookies into the fire—and Ratledge looks ready.

Right Guard: Graham Glasgow
Sliding back to right guard makes the most sense for Glasgow. He brings plenty of experience and can help stabilize the right side while Ratledge gets acclimated. Plus, his chemistry with Penei Sewell on combo blocks is a valuable asset.

Left Guard: Christian Mahogany
The second-year lineman brings some serious power to the left side. At 330 pounds, Mahogany is built to maul in the run game and fits perfectly between Taylor Decker and the rookie Ratledge. The Lions love his upside, and he’s ready to take the next step.

Left Tackle: Taylor Decker
A decade into his career, Decker is still one of the best at shutting down elite edge rushers. His leadership and consistency on the blind side are huge for this group.

Right Tackle: Penei Sewell
Fresh off his All-Pro season, Sewell is arguably the best right tackle in football. He’s the tone-setter for Detroit’s run game and a brick wall in pass protection.

Projected 2025 Starting O-Line:

LT: Taylor Decker

LG: Christian Mahogany

C: Tate Ratledge

RG: Graham Glasgow

RT: Penei Sewell

With a mix of young talent and proven veterans, this offensive line is built to protect Jared Goff and pave the way for Jahmyr Gibbs. Even with Ragnow’s retirement, the Lions are still in great shape up front—and very much in the hunt for another deep postseason run.
