Lions’ Terrion Arnold Changes Jersey Number to Honor Late Teammate
Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold recently shared why he decided to change his jersey number to No. 6 for the upcoming season. After wearing No. 0 in 2024, Arnold made the switch to honor his former Alabama teammate Khyree Jackson, who tragically passed away in a car accident last year.
Arnold explained on social media that he wanted his “brother” to live on through him. Jackson, who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, was killed in a three-car crash in Maryland just weeks before starting his first NFL training camp. He was only 24. Jackson was traveling with two of his high school friends, both of whom also lost their lives in the accident when another car tried to change lanes and sped ahead.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his sadness, saying, “Khyree brought a contagious energy to our team. He was on track to become a great player, but what stood out most was his desire to be the best person for his family and those around him.”
Arnold’s decision is part of a larger trend of Lions players changing their jersey numbers ahead of the 2025 season. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Jameson Williams are also making the switch for next year.
