Texas A&M Star Pass Rusher Projected to Join Aidan Hutchinson in Detroit

Lions Projected to Draft Texas A&M Pass Rusher Nic Scourton
As the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine kicks off, Texas A&M defensive end Nic Scourton is emerging as a potential first-round pick. In the latest Athlon Sports mock draft, analyst Luke Easterling projects Scourton will land with the Detroit Lions at No. 28 overall.

This move would give the Lions a high-upside edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson, who is returning from a broken leg that sidelined him for most of 2024. Detroit’s defense was hit hard by injuries last season, with six starters landing on IR, which played a role in their early playoff exit.

Scourton had a solid 2024 season at Texas A&M, recording 37 tackles, five sacks, and a forced fumble after transferring from Purdue. However, his 2023 breakout campaign at Purdue—where he posted 10 sacks and 57 tackles—showed his ability to be an elite pass-rusher.

The Lions already have Za’Darius Smith and Josh Paschal under contract for 2025, but adding Scourton would give them depth, versatility, and a long-term option at one of the most valuable positions in football. While Detroit looks like a great fit, other teams picking earlier—like the Bengals (No. 17) and Buccaneers (No. 19)—could also be potential landing spots.

Scourton will have a chance to boost his draft stock at the combine, where he’ll showcase his skills alongside fellow Texas A&M pass-rusher Shemar Stewart, another projected first-round pick.
