The 2025 NFL Draft will wrap up just like last year’s, with the final pick being the 257th selection. But the twist? While the draft’s final spot is still a long shot, Alabama players picked way down the list have managed to prove the experts wrong. One of the most notable underdogs is Mark McMillian, who was drafted 272nd in 1992 by the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite being just 5’7″ (earning him the nickname “Mighty Mouse”), he played 127 regular-season games, plus seven playoff games, during his impressive 8-year NFL career. McMillian finished with 23 interceptions, 404 return yards, and three touchdowns, a stat that only a few Alabama players can top.

McMillian wasn’t the only late pick to defy the odds. A few other Alabama players who were selected much later than expected still made a mark in the NFL. These include Thomas Rayam (picked 270th in 1990) and Terry Jones (284th in 1978), who each had notable careers despite their low draft numbers.

So while the 2025 draft may see some players slip under the radar, history shows that Alabama’s late picks still have the potential to make a big impact.
