PFF Thinks Amik Robertson Could Be on the Trade Block
Pro Football Focus recently put together a list of players each team might trade this offseason, and for Detroit, they pointed to cornerback Amik Robertson. Their argument? The Lions signed D.J. Reed and have young guys like Ennis Rakestraw Jr. waiting for more playing time.
Robertson wasn’t perfect last season (62.2 PFF coverage grade), but he was a beast in run defense (89.7 grade). And sure, the Lions have promising young corners, but does that mean they should move on from a veteran presence like Robertson?
Trading a Cornerback? After Last Year’s Injury Woes? No Thanks.
Last season, Detroit’s defense took a beating, and their depth at cornerback was tested big time. With guys like Caleb Williams and Jordan Love in the division, giving up a key player in the secondary seems like a bad idea.
Plus, Robertson is exactly the kind of player Detroit loves—tough, scrappy, and reliable. His impact was obvious in the playoffs when he went down with an injury against Washington. The defense struggled without him, proving how valuable he is.
The Lions already made some surprising moves this offseason, especially on the defensive line. If they’re counting on their pass rush to step up, the secondary needs to be rock solid. Keeping Robertson around gives them extra security in case injuries hit again.
At the end of the day, trading Robertson wouldn’t bring back much in return. But keeping him? That could be the difference between another playoff run and another early exit. The Lions should hold on to him—no question.
