The Giants’ Offensive Line Is One Tweaked Ankle Away from Total Chaos
The New York Giants have been spending like they’ve got something to prove — and honestly, they do. They’ve shelled out for a revamped defense, brought in two veteran QBs (yes, both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston), and even spent their first-round pick on rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
But despite all that movement, one critical area still feels terrifyingly unstable: the offensive line. And by “unstable,” we mean held together with hope, tape, and a prayer to the football gods.
At the heart of that fragile line is left tackle Andrew Thomas — the one guy standing between their shiny new offense and total collapse.
Andrew Thomas: MVP or Catastrophe Waiting to Happen?
There’s no denying Thomas is elite when he’s healthy. He’s the kind of left tackle teams dream of anchoring their line. The Giants know it — they gave him a five-year, $117.5 million deal to prove it, with a hefty $21 million cap hit this season.
The problem? He can’t stay on the field.
Last year, Thomas only managed 416 snaps. That’s not even half a season. He gave up 16 pressures and four sacks while battling nagging injuries all year. And he hasn’t played more than 600 snaps in either of the last two seasons. Not exactly iron man numbers for the guy whose job is protecting the quarterback’s blind side.
Behind Thomas? A Whole Lot of Yikes
The Giants’ depth at O-line is, frankly, terrifying. If Thomas goes down again — and let’s be honest, fans hold their breath every time he hits the turf — there’s no reliable backup plan.
What they’ve got is a collection of unproven, inconsistent depth players. Guys who’ve been thrown into the fire before and mostly… got burned. It’s not the kind of support system you want when you’re rolling out a rookie quarterback like Dart.
Finally Healthy… But for How Long?
The good news: Thomas is entering 2025 fully healthy for the first time in what feels like forever. He’s had time to rest and rebuild his lower body — the main culprit behind all those missed games.
If he stays upright, he can absolutely dominate again. He’s still one of the best pass protectors in the NFL when he’s on.
But given his injury history, fans are watching every snap with one eye on the medical tent.
The Giants Spent Big — But Missed Where It Counts
Here’s the kicker: the Giants spent big money this offseason. Wilson. Winston. Dart. Playmakers. Defense. You name it.
But for some reason, the offensive line outside of Thomas feels like an afterthought. They didn’t build depth. They didn’t bring in high-level reinforcements. They just hoped the guys they already had would magically get better.
It’s a massive gamble — especially when your entire offensive success depends on one guy staying healthy all year.
If he does? This offense might actually hum.
If he doesn’t? Well, get ready to see a whole lot of their quarterbacks running for their lives.
