The Lions’ Most Promising Building Block? It’s Not Who You Think

When you think of the Detroit Lions’ future, the first names that come to mind are probably Aidan Hutchinson, Jared Goff, or maybe Penei Sewell. But one NFL analyst thinks there’s another rising star who might be the real foundation of Detroit’s success going forward — and it’s not who you’d expect.

According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, the Lions’ most promising building block is none other than Brian Branch.

Yes, Branch — the second-year safety out of Alabama — has quickly turned heads with his instincts, versatility, and toughness. He was everywhere on the field last season, playing a key role in Aaron Glenn’s defense, whether lining up at safety, in the slot, or even closer to the line. He’s not just holding his own — he’s thriving.

“Branch has all the makings of a future Pro Bowler,” Knox wrote. “He’s the kind of player you can build your secondary around.”

And the stats back that up. In his rookie season, Branch tallied 74 tackles, 13 passes defensed, three interceptions, and even returned a pick-six in his debut game against the Chiefs. Not too shabby.

While big names like Hutchinson and Goff get more headlines, Branch might be the hidden gem that keeps Detroit’s defense together for years to come.
