Alonso had a stellar game, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a run, and four RBIs. The highlight came in the sixth inning when the Marlins intentionally walked Juan Soto to pitch to Alonso. He made them regret it by hitting a double that cleared the bases, putting the Mets up 9-5.
It’s been a great start to the season for Alonso, who’s been hitting .333 with three home runs and 15 RBIs. This has calmed some fears that he might be turning into a “home run or bust” type of hitter. The Mets’ offense also got help from Francisco Lindor, who had a big homer and two RBIs, and Juan Soto, who had two hits and scored twice.
While the Mets still have work to do with hitting in scoring positions, this game was a solid step forward. Even though the weather was cold, the offense was hot, and the fans left happy.
