The New York Mets have been solid with their pitching lately, holding it down in places like Houston and Miami. But things might get trickier when they head to Sacramento on Friday to start a six-game road trip against the Athletics, who play in a notoriously hitter-friendly park.

Griffin Canning (0-1, 2.79 ERA) will start for the Mets, facing lefty JP Sears (1-1, 3.46 ERA). Both teams had a day off Thursday after losing their respective games on Wednesday. The Mets lost 5-0 to the Marlins, ending their sweep hopes, while the Athletics dropped a close 2-1 game to the Padres.

Despite the loss, the Mets’ pitching staff continues to shine, holding a major-league best ERA of 2.10, having allowed just 32 runs over 12 games. Their rotation and bullpen have been on fire, with starters posting a 2.43 ERA and relievers keeping it at 1.70, even after Edwin Diaz gave up three runs in a non-save situation Wednesday.

The Athletics, however, have been struggling at home. Their ERA at Sutter Health Park sits at a rough 6.83, compared to 3.63 on the road. They’ve allowed more than four runs in four out of six home games, but manager Mark Kotsay hopes their recent performances will help them figure out how to handle their home park.

Canning, who has faced the Athletics more than any other team, hasn’t been great against them, with a 3-5 record and a 4.84 ERA in 11 career starts. Sears is hoping for a better showing against the Mets after a win last Saturday where he gave up three runs in 6.1 innings.
