Lindor made two costly errors, with the second one leading to two unearned runs against Mets pitcher Kodai Senga in the fourth inning. Marlins third baseman Graham Pauley capitalized on the mistake, hitting a two-run double that sealed the game at 4-2.
Despite the missteps, Senga had Lindor’s back. “Since I joined the Mets, Lindor has always been there for me and the team,” Senga said via SNY. “If he makes a mistake, I need to step up for him. It’s on me that his errors stood out because I didn’t pitch well enough.”
Senga (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs (only two earned) on three hits while striking out eight and walking one over five innings. The right-hander is working his way back from shoulder and calf injuries that kept him out for most of last season. He had a breakout year in 2023 with a 12-7 record and a solid 2.98 ERA but struggled in limited playoff action last year.
The Mets will be looking to bounce back, but Lindor and the rest of the squad need to clean things up if they want to turn things around.
