The Detroit Lions’ offense in the 2024 NFL season was nothing short of electric, putting up numbers that fans and analysts won’t soon forget. Powered by quarterback Jared Goff and a strong supporting cast of skill players, Detroit racked up 564 total points, finishing the season with an impressive 15-2 record and securing their second consecutive NFC North crown.

Although the Lions will head into the next season without offensive coordinator Ben Johnson—who accepted the head coaching role with the Chicago Bears—much of the offensive core responsible for last year’s success remains intact.

Statistically, the Lions didn’t just lead the league in total points; they also dominated several deeper offensive categories. Detroit finished first in touchdown efficiency, converting 37.4% of their drives into touchdowns, and posted a 51.6% scoring rate overall, finding the scoreboard on 94 of their 182 possessions.

As highlighted on the team’s official website, “Detroit led the league in scoring last season (33.2 ppg) because they were the top team in the league at finishing drives in the end zone and not settling for field goals. Of Detroit’s 182 offensive drives last year, 68 finished with a touchdown and 26 with field goals. Buffalo was second to Detroit in this category at a 35.8 percent touchdown efficiency.”

The numbers speak for themselves—the Lions were a scoring machine.
