What Would It Take for the Eagles to Land Myles Garrett?
Fresh off a Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t sitting back and celebrating. Instead, they might be gearing up for yet another blockbuster move.
Reports continue to link Philadelphia to Cleveland Browns superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett, who has made it clear he wants out of Cleveland. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Eagles’ interest in Garrett is “real.” Given Howie Roseman’s aggressive history when it comes to roster building, it’s no surprise that the Eagles are at least exploring the possibility of making a move.
The Cost of a Garrett Trade
Pulling off a deal for one of the NFL’s best defensive players won’t be easy. The Browns insist they don’t want to trade him, and even if they do, it would take a massive offer to pry him away.
The Eagles would likely have to send:
Multiple high draft picks (including at least one first-rounder)
A young, talented player on a team-friendly contract
Cap adjustments to fit Garrett’s $25 million salary
That last point is where things get complicated. If the Eagles land Garrett, they may have to let go of key contributors from their championship roster. According to Russini, players like linebacker Zack Baun, edge rusher Josh Sweat, defensive tackle Milton Williams, and guard Mekhi Becton could be sacrificed to make room for Garrett.
Is It Worth It?
On one hand, adding Garrett to a defensive front that already features stars like Jalen Carter and Haason Reddick would create one of the most dominant pass rush units in the league. He’s coming off his fourth straight 14+ sack season, and pairing him with that much talent could make the Eagles nearly unstoppable up front.
On the other hand, the Eagles have to consider the depth they’d lose by making this move. Letting go of multiple starters just to land one elite player—even one as dominant as Garrett—could weaken them elsewhere.
Will It Actually Happen?
Roseman is known for keeping Philadelphia in the mix for big-name players, even if a deal doesn’t ultimately happen. Right now, the Eagles are clearly monitoring the situation, but whether they pull the trigger depends on Cleveland’s willingness to deal and Philadelphia’s ability to make the numbers work.
For now, the Garrett-to-Philly rumors remain just that—rumors. But if Roseman sees a way to make it happen without gutting the roster, don’t be surprised if the Eagles make a serious push for one of the NFL’s most dominant defenders.
