A new report from Fightful Select has finally revealed which WrestleMania 39 match Vince McMahon secretly changed and it wasn’t the one fans expected.
According to the report, the original plan was for Finn Bálor’s “Demon” persona to defeat Edge (now known as Cope in AEW). In fact, Edge himself even pushed for Bálor to get the win. But McMahon had other ideas. Sean Ross Sapp’s report states that McMahon insisted on Edge winning, which ultimately happened.
For months, many fans assumed McMahon was also the one who decided that Roman Reigns would beat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39. However, this new report says that WWE had planned for Reigns to retain the title long before the event, with McMahon simply supporting the decision.
Rumors about McMahon making last-minute changes to WrestleMania 39 started circulating immediately after the event. Things only escalated after he reportedly took full control of the RAW episode that followed, making major adjustments to the show.
Despite speculation that McMahon was regaining control of WWE, his time in charge didn’t last long. By January 2024, he resigned from WWE and its parent company, TKO, following new allegations of misconduct.
