This Quiet Move by the Giants Could Be the Game-Changer”

After the total mess that was the Giants’ 2024 season, the front office clearly decided enough was enough. They’ve made real moves to fix the offense. The QB room got a full makeover thanks to free agency and the draft. They’ve added legit depth at both running back and wide receiver. And finally — the offensive line is healthy and ready to roll for Week 1.

But there’s still one big “what’s going on here?” on the roster: tight end.

That said, the Giants might already have the answer — and it’s someone already wearing blue.

In a recent piece for *Bleacher Report*, Alex Ballentine pointed out tight end as one of the team’s biggest question marks. Fair call — the current TE group (Theo Johnson, Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz, Greg Dulcich) doesn’t exactly scream “elite.” Nobody in that lineup has popped off yet or looks like a breakout star on paper.

Still, maybe we’re all sleeping on this group — especially on Theo Johnson.

The front office didn’t go hunting for a new TE this offseason, and that might’ve been for a reason. Johnson was starting to turn heads before an injury cut his rookie year short. In 12 games, he posted 29 catches, 331 yards, and a touchdown — not jaw-dropping numbers, but enough to get fans and coaches excited. He wasn’t just a checkdown guy; he showed signs of being a legit threat all over the field.

If he picks up where he left off, the Giants’ offense could finally feel… whole. That’s not something we’ve been able to say for years.

The team’s clearly counting on Johnson to take a big leap. If he does, it’ll help take pressure off rookie star Malik Nabers, who’s already got defensive coordinators planning to shut him down. Having another go-to target could change everything for the passing game.

So yeah, Johnson might not just be a stopgap — he could turn into one of the better TEs in the league if he stays healthy and takes the next step.

The opportunity’s there. Now it’s up to him to grab it.
