The Detroit Tigers are making room for their top pitching prospect, Jackson Jobe, in the starting rotation. On Saturday, they sent right-hander Keider Montero down to Triple-A Toledo, clearing the way for Jobe to start the season in the big leagues.
Jobe is set to join a solid rotation alongside AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Reese Olson, and Casey Mize when the Tigers kick off their season against the Dodgers on Thursday.
The 21-year-old from Oklahoma City was the third overall pick in the 2021 draft and is considered one of the best young arms in baseball. He’s had a solid spring, posting a 3.65 ERA in four outings.
Jobe got his first taste of the majors last year, making two relief appearances during Detroit’s playoff chase. He looked sharp, throwing four scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
In addition to Montero, the Tigers also sent infielder Ryan Kreidler to Toledo as they finalize their Opening Day roster.
