Torkelson Holds Nothing Back After Tigers’ Rough Series vs. Dodgers

Spencer Torkelson Keeps It Real After Tigers Get Swept by Dodgers
The Detroit Tigers had their chances in Los Angeles, but they’re heading home empty-handed. A 7-3 loss on Saturday night sealed a three-game sweep at the hands of the defending champion Dodgers, marking a frustrating series where missed opportunities defined Detroit’s struggles.

Once again, the Tigers got off to a solid start, pushing across two early runs. But their inability to capitalize with runners in scoring position proved costly. Over three games, Detroit went just 4-for-32 in those situations, a glaring issue that prevented them from taking advantage of key moments.

Spencer Torkelson Speaks Out
Despite the disappointing outcome, Spencer Torkelson was one of the Tigers’ few bright spots. Over the series, he hit .444 (4-for-9), blasted a home run, and reached base nine times with five walks—posting an eye-popping 1.532 OPS. But after the final loss, he wasn’t interested in celebrating personal success.

“There is not a single hole in their lineup,” Torkelson said of the Dodgers. “There’s not a single arm in the pen or a single starting pitcher you can take for granted. They are a really good team, and we had opportunities. A couple of pitches every night going our way on both sides of the ball, and we’re winning this series.

“But it still sucks. We got swept.”

What’s Next for Detroit?
If the Tigers want to compete at a higher level this season, they’ll need to start finishing the chances they create. The Dodgers showed them exactly how a championship-caliber team capitalizes on mistakes—and now it’s up to Detroit to learn from it.

Torkelson summed it up best: No excuses, just unfinished business.
