Trade Idea Sends Jalen Ramsey to Lions: Can Detroit Boost Their Secondary?

The Miami Dolphins decided not to trade Jalen Ramsey during the 2025 NFL Draft, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for the disgruntled All-Pro cornerback. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, both Ramsey and the Dolphins are exploring trade options, with a potential move still on the table.

In an interesting trade proposal, Zach Bachar from Bleacher Report suggested that the Detroit Lions could be a landing spot for the veteran cornerback. The Lions, despite an impressive 15-2 regular season record and clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC, struggled with one of the league’s worst secondaries. This weakness was exposed in the playoffs when Washington Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels lit up Detroit’s defense for 299 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-31 victory.

Given the Lions’ defensive needs, especially in the secondary, adding someone like Ramsey could be a perfect fit, especially as Detroit looks to build a championship-caliber roster. The Lions are in a “Super Bowl or bust” situation, and Ramsey’s veteran presence would be a valuable addition to their defense.

However, there’s a significant financial hurdle. Ramsey’s contract, which the Dolphins signed him to last year, is a three-year, $72 million deal. If Detroit is willing to absorb this hefty contract, the Lions might be able to secure Ramsey for a third or fourth-round pick, which could be all the Dolphins are looking for in order to move on from him.

Adding Ramsey could make a huge impact on the Lions’ defense as they look to improve on their 2024 playoff performance and push for a Super Bowl in 2025.
