Training Camp Turns Tense as Campbell Ejects Overzealous Defender

Things got heated at Lions training camp, and head coach Dan Campbell wasn’t having it.

During a high-energy practice without pads, second-year safety Morcie Norris went too far with his physicality, prompting Campbell to do something you don’t see often this early in camp—he kicked Norris off the field.

The Lions haven’t reached the full-contact portion of camp yet, so these early practices are all about technique, timing, and discipline. But Norris was reportedly too aggressive during drills, forcing Campbell to halt practice multiple times before making the call to eject him.

Campbell didn’t mince words afterward. He made it clear that while he loves intensity, there’s a time and place for it—and this wasn’t it.

This move wasn’t about punishing Norris, but about setting the tone. Campbell is drawing the line early: if players can’t stay disciplined in shorts, they won’t be trusted in full pads. As the Lions prepare for a high-expectation season, moments like this show Campbell is holding everyone accountable—rookie or veteran, backup or starter.

The pads come on Friday. Expect the tempo to ramp up, but the message has already been delivered: play smart, or sit out.
